John Morrison has been Executive Director of the Institute for Human Rights and Business since its founding in April 2009. The institute is a global “think and do” tank on human rights policy and practice working closely with governments, business, civil society and trade unions to tackle systemic dilemmas. In this capacity, Morrison has acted as a formal advisor to two EU presidencies and advised the UK government during its current G8 presidency. Previously, he was Director of the Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights from 2003 through 2009 and Head of Global Campaigns and Community Affairs for The Body Shop International. He has worked on business and human rights for more than 15 years and is writing a book on the social license to operate as a governance phenomenon.
